buttons o fun

By kaydo at 11:58 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2007

I’ve seen posters around town advertising this, but I didn’t trust it was true until I saw it on the interweb. Sounds like the makings of a cool event, and thanks to Ximon’s brilliant research, we have the details:

    Push Your Buttons
    24 April – 5 May
Ten Canberra artists address the theme Politics
and Pop through the miniature but multiple
    format of the buttonbadge.
On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th a free workshop
will offer members of the public the chance to
design and produce their very own badges. A
selection of these will be displayed during the
second week of the exhibition. This project is
suppor ted by the ACT Government through
    artsACT funding.

    Opening 6pm Tuesday 24 April

Shamelessly lifted from the ANU School of Art website which has more info.

Reminder: National High-Five Day

By lukeo at 1:24 pm on Monday, April 16, 2007

Just a quick reminder to all that Thursday is National High Five Day.
So get out there and throw someone a big West Indian High Five. But please be careful, a misguided high-five can cause injury.

Event: Canberra Balloon Fiesta

By lukeo at 6:00 am on Friday, April 13, 2007

13 – 16 April 2007

If you are the sort of person to get up amazingly early for no good reason at all, if you’re the sort of person willing to freeze your extremities off for adventure and if you don’t mind lining up with 20 other people for expensive bad coffee then this is the event for you!!!

In all seriousness, this is an amazing thing to watch if you can be arsed getting up.  I have been a few years and well worth it.  Over 50 balloon launch from Old Parliament House and float about for an hour or so before landing on roads and ovals all over Canberra.  Take your camera.  For more info visit www.canberraballoonfiesta.com.au

[ED: This event was marked as March for some reason.  It’s AprilAprilApril.  Thanks SGS for spotting the error.]

Looking for Easter fun?

By kaydo at 2:09 pm on Thursday, April 5, 2007

For those of you stuck in town who decide that the National Folk Festival isn’t your kind of scene, you should check out Adventure Paintball. Over the long weekend they have a mega cheap $10 to get all day play with paintballs $15/100. Cost effective way to settle a score, invite someone you hate.

Proposed: Volunteer for getting muddy

By kaydo at 12:41 pm on Sunday, April 1, 2007

I propose we volunteer to help out at this year’s Rally of Canberra in early June. The volunteer form is online. It should be a kick ass way to see the race up close.

Big Canberra Bike Ride

By kaydo at 12:01 am on Monday, March 19, 2007

March 19th is the Canberra day public holiday AND the Big Canberra Bike Ride.  It’s a damn fine event, as those who participated with me last year can verify.  If you’re lame it’s VERY VERY like the tour de france, and if you can keep up with the main pack (i.e people on those silly recumbent bikes and children) you pretty much get the run of the road.  It’s like fame, without the need to be good at something.  Don’t do the longer circuit unless you’re capable of riding up hills.

More info from the Pedal Power website.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk

By kaydo at 12:01 am on Sunday, March 18, 2007

It’s on the Sunday of the Canberra day long weekend, so there’s little reason not to attend.  This is a one-time deal, you get to book a place and then walk across the bridge in your allotted window.  They seem to take the whole booking/registration thing quite seriously.  You have 30 minutes to walk just over 3kms, so most folk should be able to manage it.

For those that want to be smart, the point is that you walk on the road (which you’re not normally allowed to walk on) as opposed to the path (which of course, you are).  Embrace the fun.

More info on the Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk website.
