Sugar High at the Impro Theatre

By kaydo at 12:01 am on Sunday, February 25, 2007

From the ACT impro website:  Impro Theatre ACT’s players are always hyperactive, so we figured we’d feed them too much sugar and see what happens! Sugar high is a completely improvised show where teams of performers will compete in short scenes to win lollies for you, the audience. Sure to be hilarious and hectic, Sugar High is playing for one night only at the Street Theatre, 7:30 pm on the 25th of February. Tickets $18 ($15 concession).

spamtown

By kaydo at 11:59 am on Saturday, February 24, 2007

Due to an enviable amount of truly dull spam-type comments against our posts (>50 in a couple of hours), i’ve added some words to the blacklist (yes, censorship!) and made it so you need to put in an email address to post.  Rest assured, it’s words you’re very unlikely to use unless you’re posting about your online pharmacy, and that we’ll do nothing with your email address (legitimate or not).  We’re too lazy.

Canberra Knights Ice Hockey Schedule Announced

By lukeo at 2:55 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2007

Do you fancy freezing your nuts off watching people smash each other into walls whilst a chasing a hockey puck?  If you do, then read on.

All jokes aside, ice hockey is a fantastic spectator sport and a great afternoon out in the Canberra Capital in Winter.  The Canberra Knights have just announced their playing schedule for 2007.  So if you are interested, get the dates from us, as their website needs a bit of work.

PANTS tips on watching Ice Hockey:

  1. It is cold.  Very very very very cold.  Bring lots of warm clothes and something to sit on.  Hot coffee is good idea;
  2. Keep alert.  There are holes in the “fence” (aka the net that would not stop a fast moving foam ball).  I have never seen a puck go through it, but the evidence is not good.  Also if you are sitting in the first row, there is a more than fair chance you will end up with an ice hockey player landing on you;
  3. Get there early.  I know, sounds insane, but this is getting to be a very popular sport;
  4. The auto coffee machine eats money;
  5. If you like Woodstock n Cola (i.e. Booner drink) you’ll be amongst friends
  6. Every game we seem to see is vs Newcastle

Schedule for Home Games at Phillip Ice Skating (all games start at 5:30 unless specified):

  • April 14 – Canberra vs Brisbane
  • April 21 – Canberra vs Newcastle
  • May 5 – Canberra vs West Sydney
  • May 26 – Canberra vs Melbourne
  • June 9 – Canberra vs Central Coast
  • June 23 – Canberra vs Sydney
  • July 15 – Canberra vs West Sydney
  • July 21 – Canberra vs Brisbane
  • August 4 – Canberra vs Newcastle
  • August 11 – Canberra vs Central Coast
  • August 25 (5:00pm) – Canberra vs Sydney

PANTS highlights for Feb and March

By joinpants at 8:52 pm on Monday, February 12, 2007

With February almost passed, and March approaching quickly, I thought it might be a good idea to highlight upcoming fun in case it’s missed on our very average calendar on the right side of the page.

PANTS endorsed:

Also, some of us have enrolled in CIT courses from the iconic ‘yearn to learn 2007‘ post.  Flying lessons and African Drumming.  Can there be a better combo?

yay.  Add to the list in the comments, or even better subscribe to PANTS by email.  It’s what all the cool kids are doing.

Amazing CANBERRA Race: the aftermath – UPDATE

By kaydo at 2:36 pm on Monday, February 12, 2007

Photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/98471865@N00/sets/72157594528730090/

[Updated: LukeO Review]

It was claimed to be the best idea of summer 2007.  I bet the question everyone is asking ‘did it deliver to this hype?’  Well in the words of a fat Australian, ‘I’m excited’ to bring you the news: Deliver it did!!!  To sum up the amazing race in one word:  Fantastic.

It had it all.  Drinking; driving; drinking; bowling; gambling; security guard chases; drinking and a mad dash at the end.  Well more of a slow mosey at the end, but even then we seemed to go from 4th spot to 3rd, as the other team called into the TAB to place a bet!

I am glad to announce that the PANTS team came in 3rd or 4th (not sure as the team that won it had 7 members, so I guess that’s two teams).

Seriously it was fun had by all.  9 teams entered and all finished in various states of intoxication.  Certainly by the time everyone left the last pub, everyone was shit faced!  For the amazing race photos check out below in our photo section or http://www.flickr.com/photos/95671457@N00/ for the photos from the event organisers.  For full details on the events and run down will be posted on www.amazingcanberrarace.com in the future, so check it out.

PANTS team highlights:
Team Sipowiz getting detained by the Labour club security squad.
Some great driving by DaveO to sling shot us from Last place to 3rd in an amazing dash from Belconnen to Wig and Pen
Overtaking Team Sipowitz on every car leg of the race
LukeO wasting no time in sinking a ball off the break in the first shot of pool and performing a Andy Bichel celebration jump
Megan taking a grand total of 5 attempts to get a breath-a-lizer machine to work
Kate being able to have over 3 beers, a shot of schnapps and a shot of vodka and still being able to blow 0.000 on the breath-a-lizer machine
Watching a mini people boxing match and not realising it until the ref came into the ring
Copious drinking at the final destination.

There is promise to be more amazing races in the future, so be ready for the call up.

Event: Psycho Zydeco at Multicultural Festival

By lukeo at 11:00 pm on Friday, February 9, 2007

I saw these guys back when Canberra had its own blues festival.  To say they have their own style of music is to say Australia have a good chance of winning the one day cricket.  Its different, its energetic and they certainly rock.

Get down to Civic square on Friday 9 February at 11pm or Garema on Saturday 10 at 2pm or 11pm.
