MERRY CHRISTMAS

By lukeo at 2:44 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2006

This is my official christmas card
What an exciting year it has been!  It maybe the massive amounts of coffee I have had today, or the fact that it is my last day of work, but I am excited about Christmas and feel that this year has been a spectacular one.  You can call me big Kev I am that excited.

Before I go on leave for the year, I would like to send a special thankyou to everyone, especially PANTS for the fun filled adventures this year.  I hope you all have a Merry and Safe Christmas and New Year.

Parting Thoughts:  Here is a motto I have picked up along my travels and is fitting to the holiday season.  ‘Be good. And if you can’t, be good at it’!

PANTStacular xmas extravaganza

By kaydo at 11:12 am on Wednesday, December 20, 2006

The mission was pretty simple, find outstanding Christmas lights in the northern suburbs of Canberra and leave them an anonymous card wishing them the best for the season.  Just to prove it wasn’t impersonal, we also tried to complement them on a specific feature of their display (e.g. “Hey, nice reindeer”).  The problem of course is that the incredible features which impressed us on the first few houses quickly became fairly commonplace.  We did only see one animated skiing Santa though, and I find it hard to believe that that could ever get old.

I think we may need to ramp it up next year and leave scorecards.

If you’re interested in some good xmas light action, Amaroo (nearish to the school) was probably the best territory for us.  Other than that, surprisingly few people were festive (this is directed at the dude at Palmerston who wouldn’t wave to us). Meh.

Review: November Party 2006

By lukeo at 1:05 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2006

Well it may be a month late, but the long awaited review is here… Welcome to November 2006.

This year we tried to experiment and outsource the November Party to Muddle Bar.  All in all the evening was a lot of fun and good times had.  Certainly was not a insane as previous years, but at least this year I could remember the evening (first time in 6 years!!!).  Certainly the two highlights for me where the digital photo frame I got for my birthday from everyone and the jelly shot that I ordered.  Here is a tip:  If you get a bar to make you jelly shots, check the price FIRST.  Ordering 50 jelly shots at $5 each was the result.  And I must say, muddle can make a cocktail, but their jelly shots certainly sucked.  I wonder if they knew Vodka was suppose to go in them.  That was certainly not going to deter the fun.

A very chilled out evening, and for all those who attended a big thankyou from the PANTS crew for a wonderful evening.  We look forward to next year.  Here is a taste of the night:

Review: GDE Walk

By lukeo at 7:48 am on Thursday, December 14, 2006

The GDE walk was as exciting as a road opening can be.  It had everything!!! A road; a protest; people in official reflective gear.  The only thing is that I believe they forgot to tell anyone there was a road opening, cause NO ONE turned up.  Well I lie, a handful of people managed to brave the 36 degree heat and go for the walk.  Check out the photos.  Below is a taste of the fun.

A great day had by all!!!!

event: GDE Walk

By kaydo at 10:00 am on Sunday, December 10, 2006

The Gungahlin Drive extension may be annoying, but this weekend they’ve got the foresight to open it up for fun.  Folk are invited to participate in a community walk (or pedal) along the newly completed Ginninderra Drive to Barton Highway section of the GDE.  Following details lifted from the ACT govt GDE website:

When: Sunday 10 December Time: 10am – 12pm

Where: The walk will be from Ginninderra Drive to Ellenborough Street a distance of approximately 1.5 km (3km round trip).

Those of you who joined in the opening of the new runway will appreciate how fun something this simple can be.

News: Canberra Multicultural Scehdule Announced

By lukeo at 8:58 am on Friday, December 8, 2006

Multicultural Festival 5-18 February 2007

To say I am excited about the multicultural festival is like saying swimming in Cairns in summer is a bad idea.  I am pumped.  And to add to my big kev like excitment, the schedule has been announced and I have received my free little magazine in the post.  There is a lot of good stuff on, but as the same as the last 6 or so years that I have been attending, the carnivale in civic on the final weekend is where it is at!

Here are some other PANT recommendations:
Carnivale 17th Feb – City Square
Psycho Zydeco 9th Feb – City Square (saw these guys at the canberra blues festival and they rock)
World Food and Dance thingy 10th Feb – Garema
Drumming and Dancing workshops.  Info on the website.

Get to it any day, any event and have some fun.  The important thing is to get out there and experience.  For more information check out the site.  http://www.multiculturalfestival.com.au/
