Event: Halloween at Toast with Littlesmoke

By lukeo at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2006

So it may have been the boys getting second place in Jammin’ for Justice, or it may have been the two thumbs up I gave them in my review that sparked you interest.  Whatever the reason, you know you want to hear more of Littlesmoke.  And here is your chance.

Tuesday 31st of October at Toast, kick off 8pm.

Event: barnesy comes to canberra

By lukeo at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Thats right pants, the working class man himself will be in Canberra performing for one night only at the Hellenic Club on 31st of October. Apparently he has a new CD out which no one cares about, but I am sure you can rely on the the old fella cracking out some of the tunes that defines Australian Pub Rock.

If you forget what Jimmy looks like these days, here you go….

 Jimmy will be supported by local Canberra artists Tonk and Night Train, and I am sure that whoever saw that gig at the ANU with me can testify that Night Train can often be better than the main band.

Ticket details to come, but if you are interested in going, send an email to joinpants@gmail.com

carved: pumpkin!

By kaydo at 10:29 am on Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Allow me to introduce Gary.  Gary was once a Blue Jap pumpkin sold for the princely sum of $9.23.  We carved him into an angry Jack-o-lantern.  Many many many more details to follow.  But here’s Gary:

it’s on. all hallows eve.

By kaydo at 3:21 pm on Friday, October 27, 2006

For future reference, when you approach people with crazy halloween ideas, they generally think you’re a bit odd.  The basic issue is this: We want to carve jack-o-lanterns.  Once.  We don’t want the effort to go unappreciated, so naturally I contacted everyone I thought might be interested in a bit of halloween decoration and offered our exceedingly unprofessional services.  Here’s some highlights:

  • Westfield – All mail through their online enquiry form actually bounces;
  • Fyshwick markets – nil response;
  • Belconnen markets – nil response;
  • David Jones (Woden & City) – 3 positive responses!  Helpful as they were, they’re not interested.
  • Canberra Centre – positive response!  They think its a good idea and have invited us to chat to them next year.  We’re too late, but we’ve got more than 365 days to think about it I guess.
  • Casino Canberra – nil response

Happy for other suggestions if anyone has any.

Extracts from my favourite responses:

“this is an initiative that I will not be able to support.”

“I hope you are somehow able to lift the awareness and focus on Halloween.”

“we do not have a place…where we can adequately display your artwork.”

“…on this occassion we will not be able to help you out.”

I think these people were taking the whole caper more seriously than me.  But they were all actually trying to be helpful with what was admitedly an odd request.

Anyway, it’s on.  Carving central will take place on Monday 30/10 provided we can source the required pumpkins.  If you want in, just leave us an email at joinpants@gmail.com or leave something stunning in the comments section.

Proposed: want a second job?

By kaydo at 10:33 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2006

Or at least to train for one?  CIT solutions are running one night courses in how to make kick-ass coffee.  Basically, I want as many people as possible to write my name on every coffee they make.  This is a skill.  I’ve heard that they only teach you to write K – A – T – E.  Maybe confirm this when you book the course.

Ultimate Frisbee

By kaydo at 10:33 pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Those crazy folk at the ACT Ultimate Frisbee association are conducting cut-price ($25) clinics to help you hone your skills or try the sport.  Over 5 big weeks beginning on the 3rd of November.  It’s rather a cool sport and well worth a shot.

Here’s the most relevant pic I could find, us playing frisbee at the top of Thredbo.  It’s quite the adaptable sport.

Frisbee fun!

For the record, I got hit by the frisbee just so I could take this photo.
